Diagnosis Erectile Dysfunction (ED)

Erectile Dysfunction or ED is a manhood problem, which needs to be diagnosed correctly by the doctor or urologist. The proper Diagnosis Erectile Dysfunction is needed so that the doctor is able to assign the most appropriate treatment for your condition.

After you notice the symptoms of the ED, you may be tempted to look it up on the internet and see if you can take care of it yourself. However, it is important to discuss it with your doctor or urologist so that your problem will be taken care properly. Perhaps it is hard for you to be open to your doctor, but you will really need it to find the best treatment for you. So, what can you expect when you meet your doctor?

Medical Records

Your doctor will want your medical history to assess your health condition. In the medical history, you will need to be honest when your doctor asks you about the conditions that you may have. Your doctor may ask you if you are taking prescribed medication, smoking, drinking too much alcohol, using non-prescribed drugs, gone through pelvic surgery, have hormonal conditions, and many more.

Sexual History

Your doctor will ask you several questions about your sex life. You might feel embarrassed to tell your doctor, but it is important that you do. It can be very personal, but it is important for a more accurate diagnosis. Yo may feel confident that your doctor is legally and ethically bound to keep any private personal information of his or her patients confidential, and hence may not be forced to disclose any. Yor doctor will ask you about your previous sexual experiences, your previous and current relationship, your current emotional state when the ED occurred the first time, how long you have been suffering from ED, if you have received and responded to treatments for your ED, and many more.

Your doctor might ask you a few questions about the details, so you will need to be ready for that discussion. You will even be asked about the firmness of your penis and the duration of your erections. If you have a sexual partner, it might be a good idea to visit the doctor together.

Questionnaires

This will involve certain questionnaires such as the Clinical Depression Questionnaire (CDQ) or the International Index for Erectile Function (IIEF), for example.

Physical test

Since most of ED cases can be caused by physiological factors, you can expect a physical test and investigation from your doctor. It will revolve around your blood pressure, heart rate, cholesterol and blood sugar levels, penis size, shape, and so on.

Cardiac Evaluation

There is a definite relationship between ED and heart disease. So, these tests will also be conducted. In case of a medical sign, your doctor may ask for cardioloist’s or endocrinologist’s consultancy.

Other Tests

Depending on your doctor’s diagnosis, he or she might run a few more tests to confirm the diagnosis. It can be an intracavernous injection test, x-ray to check blood vessels, penis medical imaging, etc. It is also likely that your doctor may wish to rule out a sexual disability based on a psychosocial problem with the aid of a psychiatrist before initiating any medical or surgical intervention.
